With the escalating demand on roadway systems and the increasing resistance to expand roads, many jurisdictions experience rapid growth that far exceeds their roadway networks. To alleviate the stress at a more manageable cost, technology-driven solutions have evolved using computer-based signal systems. Advanced Transportation Management Systems (ATMSs) are now widely used across the country. GCA has engineers who specialize in ATMS and are on the leading edge of design and implementation.

Feasibility Studies

GCA has over 15 years experience conducting feasibility and preliminary engineering studies. Ranging in complexity from small arterial networks to major area-wide systems, each study is performed using extensive research from field observations, data collection and interviews.

System Design

GCA tailors the design components of small and large traffic control systems to meet the requirements of local conditions at any point in time. By performing much of the design work on-site, the true dynamics of the traffic flow are monitored and incorporated in the system plan.

System Implementation

GCA can manage the installation project, whether it involves individual signals or an area-wide network, to ensure compliance with the system specifications. To promote quality performance of the complete operating system, contractors are monitored through all aspects of the installation including testing and training.

Specifications

GCA develops specifications for closed loop and hybrid networks that require traffic control equipment, central systems and cabling. To accommodate the need for ongoing modifications, an annual contract for signal construction on a work-order basis is available.

Evaluations

GCA conducts before- and after- evaluations of all system installation projects to gauge improved functionality and reliability.

Plans and Estimates

GCA prepares plans and cost estimates for traffic control improvement projects ranging from signal intersection designs to traffic control systems. A thorough analysis of field conditions is a prerequisite to initiating a plan and a requirement for delivering a viable solution. To further ensure the validity of the system before recommendation, the latest equipment from approved vendors is evaluated in GCA’s equipment laboratory.

Signal installation

GCA works with contractors on the development and integration of traffic signals and signal timing plans for central and closed loop traffic control systems. Knowledgeable in the contractual and liability issues associated with contract work versus consultation, results are comprehensive and conclusive.

Signal Timing

GCA uses the latest timing development software to enhance signal timing and provide the optimum outcome for transportation vehicles and motorists. By implementing a computer-generated timing plan with consideration given to the field fine-tuning requirements, a more consistent and maintenance-free system can be established.
